Public Policy: Traffic Congestion

Traffic congestion in Houston is at its worst level in nearly 20 years. Traffic engineers at Texas A&M estimate that the average trip in our area takes 42% longer than if you could drive the posted speed limit. But that is not the bad news. Based on our current funding and plans, they estimate that congestion will double (average will take 84% longer). With the phenomenal growth expected in our region over the next two decades, we are not going to eliminate traffic. But there are things we can to make the situation better.
