NY Times Cites Interfaith Ministries
January 30, 2009

For the last several years I have had the great privilege of being able to participate in the activities of Interfaith Ministries of Houston (IM). IM is remarkable organization. Followers of every major faith tradition and more incredibly, diverse communities coming together at IM promoting mutual respect and understanding demonstrates the power of shared beliefs through various service projects.

Increasingly, IM is receiving national recognition for its work. Over the last two years there have several stories in the national media regarding IM's Amazing Faiths Dinners which it holds each November in conjunction with Rice's Boniak Center. Last year ten other cities joined IM in holding these dinners.

One of the programs administered by IM is Meals on Wheels which provides hot meals to home bound senior citizens. This week a New York Times story cited IM for its efforts to distribute digital TV converter boxes to its Meals on Wheels clients.

These stories have not only reflected favorably on IM but also on our community generally. I believe that one day there will be hundreds of cities participating in the Amazing Faiths Dinners and that the world will know that it all started in Houston.

I hope that you will consider becoming involved with the activities at IM. You can review the many opportunities to participate at http://www.imgh.org/index.htm. As an introduction, you might consider attending IM's annual gala on June 4. The annual gala is a remarkable events that fully showcase our community's diversity and shared faith based values. I promise you that you will leave the event feeling better about the world and our community.
